In today’s globalized world there are many advantages to learning English. Firstly, International communication in a globalized world requires a common language. For many reasons, English has achieved the place of that common language. No nation can do without it. In particular, international correspondence needs to be done in English. Secondly, English is necessary for people of different professions. A pilot or a stewardess, a telephone operator or a tourist guide must know English. Also, a person who likes to get a job in a foreign office, in a post office or in a big hotel must know English. A postman must read foreign envelopes. A telephone operator must use English to make calls to other countries. A foreign office cannot also function without English-knowing people. Global trade and commerce cannot run without English. Thirdly, English is a must for higher studies because most of the books on higher education are written in or translated into English. World famous educational institutes are located in the western world. In order to study there, one must have a sound knowledge of English. Fourthly, today most job advertisements demand English language skills. So knowing English opens up job and employment opportunities. Above all, today English has become a language of technology and science without which no nation can achieve progress and prosperity. Therefore, we should give due importance to learning English.
