A Greedy Farmer
Once there was a poor farmer. One day, he bought a goose from the market. The goose began to lay a golden egg every day. The poor farmer became very rich within a very short time. But he was a very greedy person. He thought that there were many eggs in the belly of the goose. He wanted to have all the eggs at a time become rich overnight. One day he hit upon a plan that he would kill the goose and get all the eggs of gold from its belly. He told his wife about his plan. His wife who was wise but not greedy said to her husband, “Don’t be greedy. Be happy with what we’ve.” But the farmer did not listen to his wife. He killed the goose with a sharp knife. Then he cut open its belly. But alas! He found no eggs in it. Thus the greedy farmer lost his useful goose.
