১. Books are man’s best companion in life. You must have very good friends but you cannot get them when you need them. They may not speak gently to you. One or two may prove false and do you much harm. But books are always ready to be by your side. Some books may make you laugh, others may give you much pleasure, So, making friendship with books costs us nothing but gives us much.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : বই হচ্ছে মানব জীবনের সর্বোত্তম বন্ধু। তোমার অবশ্যই অনেক ভালো বন্ধু থাকতে পারে। কিন্তু তোমার প্রয়োজনীয় মূহুর্তে তাদেরকে পাবে না। তারা তোমার সাথে সুন্দরভাবে কথা নাও বলতে পারে। তাদের মধ্যে দু-একজন অসৎ বলে প্রতিপন্ন হতে পারে এবং তোমার অনেক ক্ষতি করতে পারে। কিন্তু বই সর্বদা তোমার পাশে থাকার জন্য প্রস্তুত। কিছু বই তোমাকে হাসাতে পারে , আবার কিছু বই তোমাকে প্রচুর আনন্দ দিতে পারে। তবে বইয়ের সাথে বন্ধুত্ব করতে কোনো মূল্য দিতে হয় না, কিন্তু এটি আমাদের অনেক কিছু দেয়।

২. The great advantage of early rising is the good start – it gives in our day’s work. The early riser has done a huge quantity of hard work before other men have gotten out of bed. In the early the mind is fresh and there are fewer disturbances. So, the work done at that time is generally well done by beginning so early, he knows that he has plenty of time to do all the work thoroughly. He is not, therefore, tempted to hurry over any part of it.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : ভোরে ঘুম থেকে ওঠার বিশেষ সুবিধা হলাে – এটি আমাদের দিনের কাজের শুভ সূচনা করে। যে ভোরবেলায় ঘুম থেকে ওঠে, সে অন্যদের ঘুম থেকে ওঠার আগেই অনেক কাজ সেরে ফেলে। সকালে মন সতেজ থাকে এবং গোলমাল কম থাকে। কাজেই এ সময় কোন কাজ করলে সাধারণত তা সুসম্পন্ন হয়ে থাকে। যে খুব ভোরে কাজ শুরু করে, সে জানে তার কাজ সম্পূর্ণরূপে সম্পন্ন করার জন্য প্রচুর সময় তার হাতে আছে। তাই কোনো কাজে তাকে তাড়াহুড়ো করতে হয় না।

৩. The aim of education is to make a man fully fit for himself and society. It means to develop the whole man who consists of body, mind, and soul. It is education that aims at providing a child with opportunities so that it can bring to light its all learned qualities. An educated man should be gentle, thoughtful, creative, kind, respectful, sympathetic, and cooperative. If education offers no spiritual beauty, it has no value.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একজন মানুষকে তার নিজের ও সমাজের জন্য সহায়ক রূপে সম্পূর্ণ সুসজ্জিত করে তোলাই শিক্ষার উদ্দেশ্য। এটি শরীর, মন ও আত্মা দ্বারা গঠিত একজন পরিপূর্ণ মানুষের উন্নয়নকে বোঝায়। শিক্ষার উদ্দেশ্য হচ্ছে- একটি শিশুর মধ্যে যে সহজাত সুপ্ত প্রতিভা থাকে, তাকে বিকশিত হওয়ার সুযোগ করে দেওয়া। একজন শিক্ষিত মানুষকে ভদ্র, চিন্তাশীল, সৃষ্টিশীল, দয়ালু, সম্মানিত, সহানুভূতিশীল এবং সহযোগিতার মনে ভাব সম্পন্ন হওয়া উচিত। শিক্ষা যদি আত্মিক সৌন্দর্য দান না করে, তবে তার কোন মূল্য থাকে না।

৪. Health is Wealth. ‘The sound condition of the body means health. Good health is a guarantee of happiness. A healthy day-laborer also can enjoy a sound sleep at night with his entire satisfaction of mind. A healthy man is an asset to his family. On the other hand, a sick man is a liability to all.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : স্বাস্থ্যই সম্পদ। শারীরিক সুস্থতাই স্বাস্থ্য। সুস্বাস্থ্য সুখের নিশ্চয়তা দান করে। একজন স্বাস্থ্যবান দিনমজুর মনের পরিপূর্ণ তৃপ্তি নিয়ে রাতে ঘুমাতে পারে। একজন স্বাস্থ্যবান লোক তার পরিবারের সম্পদ।পক্ষান্তরে, একজন অসুস্থ মানুষ সকলের বোঝা স্বরূপ।

৫. Bangladesh is now a free country. She suffered much during the last twenty-five years. But for her, the days of suffering are over. She is going to enter into an age of great prosperity. The golden land of Bangladesh will again be flowing with milk and honey.

বঙ্গানুবাদ: বাংলাদেশ এখন একটি স্বাধীন দেশ। গত ২৫ বছর ধরে দেশটি অত্যন্ত দুর্ভোগের মধ্যে ছিল। কিন্তু তার সে দুর্ভোগ এখন শেষ হয়েছে। সে এখন সমৃদ্ধির দিকে ধাবিত হচ্ছে। সোনার বাংলাদেশ আবারাে সুখ-সমৃদ্ধিতে ভরে উঠবে।

৬. Walking is the best suited to all kinds of health. Both the young and the old can walk and help their bodies become active as long as they live. On the other hand, gymnastic exercises are best suited to young people only. However, today most doctors advise some patients, suffering from particular diseases, for jogging.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : হাঁটাচলা সব রকম স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য সবচেয়ে উপযোগী। তরুণ ও বৃদ্ধ উভয়েই হাঁটতে পারে এবং এর দ্বারা তারা তাদের শরীরকে জীবনভর সক্রিয় রাখতে পারে। পক্ষান্তরে, শারীরিক কসরত যুক্ত ব্যায়াম শুধু তরুণদের জন্য উপযোগী। তবে আজকাল অধিকাংশ ডাক্তার কিছু বিশেষ রোগে আক্রান্ত রোগীদের মৃদু বেগে দৌড়ানোর পরামর্শ দেন।

৭. Punctuality is to be cultivated and formed into a habit. The quality is to be acquired through all our works from our boyhood. Boyhood is the seed time. The habit formed at this time will continue all through our lives. Everything at the right time should be our motto.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : নিয়মানুবর্তিতার চর্চা করতে হবে এবং একে অভ্যাসে পরিণত করতে হবে। শৈশবকাল থেকেই আমাদের সকল কাজের মধ্যে দিয়ে এ গুণটি অর্জন করতে হয়। শৈশবকাল বীজ বপনের সময়। এ সময়ে গঠিত অভ্যাসই জীবনব্যাপী চলতে থাকবে। ’‘সবকিছু যথাসময়ে’ – এটাই আমাদের মূল উদ্দেশ্য হওয়া উচিত।

৮. Man is the architect of his own life. If he makes proper division of his time and does his duties accordingly, he is sure to prosper in life. But, if he does otherwise, he is sure to repent when he is too late and he will have to drag a miserable existence from day-to-day.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : মানুষ নিজেই তার জীবনের স্থপতি। সে যদি তার সময়কে যথাযথভাবে ভাগ করে নেয় এবং সেই অনুযায়ী নিজ কর্তব্য সম্পন্ন করে, তবে সে জীবনে নিশ্চিত সাফল্য লাভ করবে। কিন্তু সে যদি এর অন্যথা করে, তবে তাকে অনুতপ্ত হতে হবে, অবশ্য তখন অনেক দেরি হয়ে যাবে এবং তাকে দিনের পর দিন শোচনীয়ভাবে বেঁচে থাকতে হবে।

৯. Home is the first school where the child learns his first lessons. The first lessons are very important for the development of his mind. He sees, hears, and begins to learn at home. It is the hole that builds his character. In a good home, honest and healthy men are made.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : ঘরই শিশুর প্রথম বিদ্যালয় যেখানে সে প্রথম পাঠ শেখে। তার মানসিক উন্নয়নের জন্য প্রথম শিক্ষায় সর্বাপেক্ষা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। সে দেখে, শোনে এবং শেখা শুরু করে ঘর থেকেই। ঘর থেকেই তার চরিত্র গড়ে ওঠে। ভালাে ঘরে সুস্থ এবং সৎ মানুষ তৈরি হয়।

১০. Can you say why Bangladesh came out victorious in this war? There are two reasons. First, the people of Bangladesh believed that they fought for the freedom of the nation. They fought in the name of our homeland Bangladesh. The Pakistanis were defeated because they wanted to take the Country of others. Second, we had a very great leader.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : তোমরা কি বলতে পারবে বাংলাদেশ যুদ্ধে কোনো বিজয়ী হয়েছে? এর দুটি কারণ রয়েছে। প্রথমত, বাংলাদেশের জনগণ বিশ্বাস করেছিল যে, তারা জাতির স্বাধীনতার জন্য যুদ্ধ করছে। তারা আমাদের জন্মভূমি বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার নামে লড়েছিল। পাকিস্তান পরাজিত হয়েছিল, কারণ তারা অন্যের দেশ দখল করতে চেয়েছিল। দ্বিতীয়ত, আমাদের ছিল এক মহান নেতা।

১১. We are social beings and have to consider the effect of our behavior on others. There are two terms to describe our social behavior- ‘etiquette’ and ‘manners’. ‘Etiquette’ means the rules of correct behavior in society. The word ‘manners’ means the behavior to be polite in a particular society or culture. No one likes a bad-mannered person.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : আমরা সামাজিক জীব তাই আমাদের আচার-আচরণ অন্যদের ওপর কী প্রভাব ফেলছে তা আমাদের বিবেচনায় রাখতে হবে। আমাদের সামাজিক আচার-আচরণকে দুই ভাবে প্রকাশ করা যায় – শিষ্টাচার ও আচরণ বিধি। ‘শিষ্টাচার’ বলতে সমাজে সঠিক ব্যবহার বিধি বােঝায়। আর আচরণবিধি বলতে বিশেষ সমাজ অথবা সংস্কৃতিতে মার্জিত ব্যবহারকে বুঝায়। অমার্জিত আচরণের মানুষকে কেউ পছন্দ করে না।

১২. A good teacher is one of the most important people in any country. Bangladesh needs good teachers. A good teacher makes lessons interesting. He keeps pupils and students awake. He also makes them confident and proves them clever. Everybody has something valuable in him. A good teacher discovers the treasure hidden inside each student.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একজন ভালো শিক্ষক যে-কোনো দেশের সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তিদের মধ্যে অন্যতম। বাংলাদেশে ভালো শিক্ষকের প্রয়োজন রয়েছে। একজন ভালো শিক্ষক পাঠকে চিত্তাকর্ষক করে তোলেন। তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের সজাগ রাখে। তিনি তাদেরকে আত্মবিশ্বাসী ও চালাকচতুর করে তােলেন। প্রত্যেকের মাঝে মূল্যবান কিছু সুপ্ত থাকে। একজন ভালো শিক্ষক প্রত্যেক ছাত্রের মধ্যে সুপ্ত প্রতিভার বিকাশ ঘটান।

১৩. A patriot is a man who loves his country, works for it, and is willing to fight and die for it. Every soldier is bound to do his duty, but the best soldiers do more than this. They risk their lives because they love the country. They are the best friends of the people.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : যিনি নিজের দেশকে ভালােবাসেন, দেশের জন্য কাজ করেন এবং দেশের জন্য যুদ্ধ করতে ও জীবন দিতে প্রস্তুত তিনিই দেশপ্রেমিক। প্রত্যেক সৈনিকই তার কর্তব্য সম্পাদনে বাধ্য কিন্তু শ্রেষ্ঠ সৈনিকরা এর চেয়ে বেশি কিছু করে থাকেন। দেশকে ভালোবাসে বলেই তারা জীবনের ঝুঁকি নেন। তারা জনগণের সর্বোত্তম বন্ধু।

১৪. Many people put off for tomorrow the work they can do today. Students also very often put off their class lessons for tomorrow. Nothing is more injurious than this habit. Men do not know what will happen tomorrow. This is why it is wise to value the present moments to make our life meaningful. A lot of troubles and dangers may come and upset everything. So, we must not neglect our time, the flowing capital.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : অনেকেই যে কাজ আজ করতে পারে, তা আগামীকালের জন্য রেখে দেয়। ছাত্ররা অনেক সময় তাদের ক্লাসের পড়া আগামীকালের জন্য ফেলে রাখে। এ অভ্যাসের চেয়ে ক্ষতিকর আর কিছু নেই। মানুষ জানে না আগামীকাল কি ঘটবে। সেজন্য আমাদের জীবনকে অর্থময় করে তুলতে বর্তমানকে গুরুত্ব দেওয়া জ্ঞানী মানুষের কাজ। অনেক অসুবিধা ও বিপদ এসে সবকিছু এলোমেলো করে দিতে পারে। তাই সময়ের গুরুত্ব অনুধাবন করে সময়কে অবজ্ঞা করা আমাদের উচিত নয়।

১৫. Bangladesh is the land of our birth. The blue sky and the fresh air of this land are very dear to us. It is our duty to build up our dear Bangladesh. It is our sacred duty. If we do our respective duties then only our country will make progress.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : বাংলাদেশ আমাদের জন্মভূমি। এদেশের নীল আকাশ আর নির্মল বাতাস আমাদের খুবই প্রিয়। আমাদের প্রিয় বাংলাদেশকে গড়ে তােলা আমাদের কর্তব্য। এটা আমাদের পবিত্র দায়িত্ব। যদি আমরা আমাদের স্ব-স্ব দায়িত্ব পালন করি, তাহলেই কেবল আমাদের দেশ সমৃদ্ধ হবে।

১৬. We should bear the courage to say the right thing. We need not fear men nor care for what others think of us. So, long as our purpose is honest, God will be on our side. And with this help, we shall be able to encourage the weak. Thus, we shall be able to march in life and search for its goal.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : আমাদের সত্য বলার সাহস থাকা উচিত। মানুষকে ভয় পাওয়ার বা অন্যে আমাদের সম্পর্কে কী ভাবে তা নিয়ে উৎকণ্ঠিত হওয়ার কোনো প্রয়োজন নেই। আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত সৎ থাকবে, সৃষ্টিকর্তা ততক্ষণ আমাদের পাশে থাকবে এবং তাঁর সহায়তায় আমরা দুর্বলদের অনুপ্রাণিত করতে সক্ষম হবাে। এভাবে আমরা জীবনে এগিয়ে যেতে সক্ষম হবাে এবং জীবনের লক্ষ্য খুঁজে নিতে পারব।

১৭. The aim of education is to make a man fully fit for himself and society. It means to develop the whole man-his body, mind, and soul. It is education that aims at providing a child with opportunities so that it can bring to light its all latent qualities. An educated man should be gentle, polite, thoughtful, creative, kind, respectful, sympathetic, and cooperative. So all of us should try our best to be educated and to serve humanity and the state. Because if education develops no spiritual and moral values, it has no value at all.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একজন মানুষকে তার নিজের ও সমাজের জন্য সহায়ক রূপে সম্পূর্ণ উপযুক্ত করে তোলাই শিক্ষার উদ্দেশ্য। এটি একজন পরিপূর্ণ মানুষের উৎকর্ষ সাধন করে; যা দেহ, মন ও আত্মার সমন্বয়ে গঠিত। শিক্ষার উদ্দেশ্য হচ্ছে একটি শিশুর মধ্যে যে সহজাত সুপ্ত প্রতিভা থাকে, তাকে বিকশিত হওয়ার সুযোগ করে দেওয়া। একজন শিক্ষিত মানুষকে ভদ্র, চিন্তাশীল, সৃষ্টিশীল, দয়ালু, সম্মানিত, সহানুভূতিশীল এবং সহযোগিতার মনে ভাব সম্পন্ন হওয়া উচিত। সুতরাং, আমাদের সবার প্রাণপণ চেষ্টা করা উচিত, শিক্ষিত হয়ে দেশ ও মানবতার সেবা করা। কারণ শিক্ষা যদি আত্মিক ও নৈতিক উন্নতি সাধন না করে, তবে তা মূল্যহীন।

১৮. Man cannot live alone. So, he likes to keep company. He cannot do without the help of others even for a day. For this reason, men have been living together for many days. This is called social life. None can go according to this sweet will in society.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : মানুষ একা জীবনযাপন করতে পারে না। তাই সে সঙ্গী চায়। অন্যের সাহায্য ছাড়া তার একটি দিনও চলে না। ফলে দীর্ঘদিন থেকে মানুষ একত্রে বসবাস করে আসছে। একেই সমাজ জীবন বলে। সমাজে কোন মানুষ তার আপন খেয়াল খুশি অনুযায়ী কাজ করতে পারে না।

১৯. Trees are our friends. It helps us in different ways. It gives us shade, food, fuel, medicine, and oxygen. Trees make our environment beautiful. Trees are our valuable wealth. It is very much necessary to make the afforestation program successful.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : গাছ আমাদের বন্ধু। ইহা আমাদের নানাভাবে সাহায্য করে। ইহা আমাদের ছায়া, খাদ্য, জ্বালানি, ঔষধ ও অক্সিজেন প্রদান করে। গাছ আমাদের পরিবেশকে সৌন্দর্যমন্ডিত করে। গাছ আমাদের মূল্যবান সম্পদ। বনায়ন কর্মসূচি সফল করা অত্যন্ত জরুরি।

২০. Shaheed Minar is the symbol of our love and sincerity for the supreme sacrifice of our language martyrs. It is located in front of Dhaka Medical College. Hamidur Rahman, a famous architect designed this significant monument. Its vertical lines symbolize the manifestations of inner strength. The four columns on both sides of the central structure reflect the balance and harmony of the united stand. Today, it has become a part of our political as well as cultural achievement and national source of inspiration.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : শহীদ মিনার আমাদের ভালোবাসা ও আন্তরিকতার প্রতীক যা ভাষা শহীদদের সর্বোচ্চ আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়ে অর্জিত। এটা ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজের সামনে অবস্থিত। বিখ্যাত স্থপতি হামিদুর রহমান এই তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ স্মৃতিস্তম্ভের নকশা তৈরি করেছেন। জাতির অভ্যন্তরীণ চেতনা শক্তির অভিব্যক্তি প্রতীকায়িত হয়েছে এর উলম্ব সারিগুলােতে। মূল কাঠামোর উভয় পাশের চারটি স্তম্ভের মাধ্যমে সম্মিলিত প্রতিবাদের ভারসাম্য ও ঐক্য প্রতিফলিত হয়েছে। আজ এটি আমাদের রাজনৈতিক ও সংস্কৃতিগত অর্জন এবং অনুপ্রেরণার জাতীয় উৎসের একটি অংশে পরিণত হয়েছে।

২১. Mother tongue is deeply rooted in one’s mind from the very beginning. In fact, the mother tongue is related to our lives and thoughts. Without the development of one’s own language, it is difficult to acquire a foreign language. He who has more command over his mother tongue, it is possible for him to gather more experience in a foreign language. It is the greatest contribution of the native language.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : মাতৃভাষা শুরু থেকে সবার মনে দৃঢ় অবস্থান নেয়। সত্যিকার অর্থে মাতৃভাষা আমাদের সবার জীবন ও চেতনার সাথে মিশে থাকে। মাতৃভাষার উন্নয়ন ছাড়া বিদেশি ভাষা রপ্ত করা বেশ কঠিন। যার মাতৃভাষার উপর দখল বেশি তার পক্ষে বিদেশি ভাষার উপর ততটা জ্ঞানের অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করা সহজ হয়। এটা মাতৃভাষার সবচেয়ে বড় অবদান।

২২. Bangladesh is a beautiful country. To its south, there is a deep blue sea, hills to the north, and river washed fertile land in the midst of it. There are gas and oil sources under its soil. As if it is floating on oil. It also has powerful manpower. So the whole world looks forward to it.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : বাংলাদেশ এক সুন্দর দেশ। এ দেশের দক্ষিণে সুনীল সাগর এবং উত্তরে পাহাড় ও মধ্যখানে নদীবিধৌত উর্বর সমতল ভূমি। এর মাটির নিচে আছে গ্যাস ও তেল সম্পদ। যেন এটি তেলের উপর ভাসছে। এর আরো আছে শক্তিশালী জনসম্পদ। তাইতো সমস্ত পৃথিবীর দৃষ্টি এ দেশের দিকে।

২৩. Patriotism is a very noble virtue. It means love for one’s country. A person who loves his/her country more than anything else is called a patriot. Patriotism inspires a man to do everything just and fair for the wellbeing and betterment of the country. It is the invaluable quality that impels a man to sacrifice his own interest, comfort, pleasure, and even his life for the sake of his/her country. To a true patriot mother and the motherland are the same.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : দেশপ্রেম হচ্ছে একটি মহৎ গুণ। এর অর্থ স্বদেশের প্রতি ভালোবাসা। অন্য সবকিছুর চেয়ে যে ব্যক্তি তার দেশকে অনেক ভালোবাসে সে দেশপ্রেমিক। দেশপ্রেম একজন মানুষকে দেশের কল্যাণ ও মঙ্গলার্থে ন্যায় ও সুন্দরের প্রতি অনুপ্রাণিত করে। এটি এমন এক অমূল্য গুণ যা কোনো ব্যক্তির স্বার্থ, আরাম-আয়েশ ত্যাগ করতে এমনকি দেশের জন্য তার জীবন পর্যন্ত উৎসর্গ করতে অনুপ্রাণিত করে। একজন সত্যিকারের দেশপ্রেমিক এর কাছে তার মা এবং মাতৃভূমি অভিন্ন।

২৪. Books introduce us to the best society, they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did, we see them as if they were really alive; we are participators in their thoughts, we sympathize with them, grieve with them and we feel as if we were measure actors in the scenes which they describe. The great and good men do not die even in this world. Emblemed in books their spirit walks about.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : বইপত্র আমাদের সর্বোত্তম সমাজের সাথে পরিচয় করিয়ে দেয়। বই আমাদের চিরজীবী মহৎ মানুষের সান্নিধ্যে নিয়ে যায়। তারা যা বলেছেন এবং করেছেন আমরা তা শুনি, আমরা তাদের যেন সত্যিকারভাবে দেখতে পাই; তাদের চিন্তায় আমরা অংশগ্রহণ করি, তাদের সঙ্গে দুঃখবোধ করি এবং তাদের প্রতি সহানুভূতি প্রকাশ করি এবং অনুভব করি তাদের বর্ণিত দৃশ্যাবলিতে আমরাও যেন অনেকাংশে অভিনেতা। মহৎ এবং উত্তম মানুষের মৃত্যু নেই। তারা যেন জগতে অবিনশ্বরতা লাভ করে বইপত্রের মধ্যে বিচরণ করে থাকেন।

২৫. Truthfulness is the greatest of all the virtues which make a man really great. If we do not cultivate the habit of speaking the truth, we will never win the respect of others. A lie never lies hidden for long. Today or tomorrow it will come to light. Then the real character of the liar is revealed and nobody trusts him.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : যে সকল গুণ মানুষকে সত্যিকারভাবে মহৎ করে তোলে সত্যবাদিতা তাদের মধ্যে সর্বোৎকৃষ্ট। সত্য কথা বলার অভ্যাসের অনুশীলন যদি আমরা না করি তাহলে কখনো আমরা অন্যের শ্রদ্ধা অর্জন করবেন না। কোনো মিথ্যা দীর্ঘদিন গোপন থাকে না। আজ হোক, কাল হোক, সেটা প্রকাশ পায়। তখন মিথ্যাবাদীর প্রকৃত পরিচয় উন্মোচিত হয় এবং কেউ তাকে বিশ্বাস করে না।

২৬. The best teachers have always emphasized the importance of self-culture and of stimulating the student to gain knowledge by the exercise of his own faculties. বঙ্গানুবাদ : সর্ব শ্রেষ্ঠ শিক্ষকগণ সর্বদা আত্ম অনুশীলন এবং নিজেদের শক্তির ব্যবহার করে জ্ঞান অর্জন করার জন্য ছাত্রদের উদ্দীপ্ত করার উপর জোর দিয়েছেন। তারা কথার চেয়ে প্রশিক্ষণের উপর বেশি নির্ভর করেছেন এবং ছাত্রদের নিষ্ক্রিয় তথ্য গ্রহণকারী নয় বরং নিজস্ব শিক্ষা অর্জনের ক্ষেত্রে সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণকারী হিসাবে তৈরি করার চেষ্টা করেছেন। এ চেতনার উপর রাগবীর বিখ্যাত প্রধান শিক্ষক ড. আর্নল্ড কাজ করেছিলেন।

২৭. Education is the backbone of a nation. No nation can be prosperous without education. Ignorance is as bad as darkness. So, society needs the light of education. Everyone must realize this truth. Students should be aware of their duties and responsibilities. Otherwise, no hope will be left for the nation.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : শিক্ষা জাতির মেরুদন্ড। শিক্ষা ছাড়া কোন জাতি উন্নত হতে পারে না। অজ্ঞতা অন্ধকারের সামিল। তাই সমাজের জন্য প্রয়োজন শিক্ষার আলো। সকলকে এ সত্যটি উপলব্ধি করতে হবে। ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের তাদের দায়িত্ব সম্পর্কে সচেতন হতে হবে। অন্যথায় জাতির জন্য কোন আশা থাকবে না।

২৮. Education is the key to prosperity. The more the country is developed in education, the richer the country is. But education should be according to the needs of the age and that must be standard, Unfortunately, the system of our education is not made in accordance with the demand of the people not maintaining the standard. If we do not develop our education, we shall not be able to go with the developed countries of the world.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : শিক্ষা উন্নতির চাবিকাঠি। শিক্ষা দীক্ষায় যে দেশ যত বেশি উন্নত, সে দেশ সব দিক থেকে তত সমৃদ্ধশালী। তবে শিক্ষাকে যুগের চাহিদা মাফিক হতে হবে এবং তা হতে হবে উন্নত মানের। দুর্ভাগ্যবশত আমাদের শিক্ষা যুগোপযোগী নয়, উন্নত মানের নয়। আমাদের শিক্ষার মান উন্নত করতে না পারলে অন্যান্য দেশের সাথে আমরা তাল মিলিয়ে চলতে পারব না।

২৯. Bengal is our mother tongue, our state language, and the language of our heart. It is our bounden duty to learn to write and read this language correctly. We should make efforts for the all-round development of this language. English is mostly used at the international level. We can’t be acquainted with the knowledge and science of the western world without the knowledge of English. We should learn English properly even for the development of our mother tongue.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : বাংলা আমাদের মাতৃভাষা , আমাদের রাষ্ট্র ভাষা, প্রাণের ভাষা। এ ভাষা শুদ্ধভাবে লিখতে ও পড়তে শেখা আমাদের অবশ্য কর্তব্য। এ ভাষার সার্বিক উন্নতির জন্য আমাদের সচেষ্ট হওয়া উচিত। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্ষেত্রে ইংরেজি ভাষার ব্যবহার সর্বাধিক। ইংরেজি জ্ঞান ছাড়া আমরা পাশ্চাত্য জগতের জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞানের সাথে পরিচিত হতে পারি না। এমনকি মাতৃভাষার উন্নতির জন্য আমাদের ইংরেজি ভাষা ভালোভাবে শেখা উচিত।

৩০. Science has lifted up human civilization to its highest peak. In this twentieth century, machines have given man such an advantage that he could never imagine. This machine has given man the power to cross a thousand miles in one hour. The best contribution of science in modern times is the computer.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : বিজ্ঞান মানব সভ্যতাকে সর্বোচ্চ চূড়ায় অধিষ্ঠিত করেছে। এই বিংশ শতাব্দীতে মানুষের জন্য যন্ত্র এমন সুবিধা এনে দিয়েছে যা মানুষ কখনো কল্পনাও করতে পারেনি। এই যন্ত্র মানুষকে এক ঘণ্টায় হাজার হাজার মাইল অতিক্রম করার ক্ষমতা দিয়েছে। বর্তমানে বিজ্ঞানের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ অবদান কম্পিউটার।

৩১. Patriotism is love for one’s country. It is a strong and completely selfless passion. A patriot can even sacrifice his life for the well-being of his country. It is such a virtue that gives strength and courage. But does patriotism make a man mean-minded and selfish? In fact, patriotism includes the beauty of the mind.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : দেশপ্রেম হলো দেশের প্রতি ভালোবাসা। এটি একটি শক্তিশালী ও সম্পূর্ণ স্বার্থপরতা হীন মহৎ আবেগ। একজন দেশপ্রেমিক তাঁর দেশের মঙ্গলের জন্য নিজের জীবন পর্যন্ত উৎসর্গ করতে পারেন। এটা এমন একটি গুণ যা সাহস ও শক্তি দেয়। কিন্তু সে দেশপ্রেম কি মানুষকে সংকীর্ণমনা এবং স্বার্থপর করে তােলে? প্রকৃতপক্ষে দেশপ্রেম আত্মিক সৌন্দর্য বহন করে।

৩২. The 21st of February is a memorable day in our life. Every year we remember this day with respect. The day is a govt. holiday. On this day the national flag flies at half-mast. Many seminars and meetings are held. Recently this day has been recognized as International Mother Language Day. It is a matter of pride for us.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি আমাদের জীবনে একটি স্মরণীয় দিন। প্রতি বছর এ দিনটি আমরা শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করি। দিনটি সরকারি ছুটির দিন। এ দিনে জাতীয় পতাকা অর্ধনমিত রাখা হয়। নানা সভা-সমাবেশ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সম্প্রতি দিনটিকে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দেওয়া হয়েছে। ইহা আমাদের জন্য একটি গৌরবের বিষয়।

৩৩. Education is not only limited to schools, colleges, and universities. We have learned a lot from family, society, and the whole world. That which we learn from the real experience of life is no less important than that which we learn traditionally from school and college. Therefore, it can be said that education is a lifelong process. This education begins from our birth and ends with our death.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : শিক্ষা কেবল স্কুল, কলেজ এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়। পরিবার, সমাজ আর সমগ্র বিশ্বের কাছ থেকে আমরা অনেক কিছু শিখছি। জীবনের বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে আমরা যে শিক্ষা পেয়ে থাকি, প্রথাগতভাবে স্কুল ও কলেজে প্রাপ্ত শিক্ষার চেয়ে তা কম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নয়। কাজেই বলা চলে, শিক্ষা জীবনব্যাপী এক ধারাবাহিক প্রক্রিয়া মাত্র। আমাদের জন্মলগ্ন থেকে আরম্ভ হয় এই শিক্ষার, আর তার পরিসমাপ্তি ঘটে মৃত্যুতে।
