Importance of Newspaper
A newspaper is a paper that carries news to us. Newspapers play a very important role in our lives. Firstly, all kinds of news and views of home and abroad are brought to us by newspapers. There is hardly any aspect of life which is not covered by a newspaper. We can not imagine a single day without newspapers at our doorstep in the morning. Secondly, apart from news, it gives us valuable information in the forms of advertisements, notices and reviews. It is the chief source of publishing both social and • commercial advertisements. Thirdly, newspapers have great educational value too. It is the cheapest means of mass education. Students read newspapers to supplement the education that they receive at school and college. Fourthly, the newspaper contains letters to the editor, news on current political situations, social development, national crisis, economy, healthcare, crime and detection etc. Through these news articles, the newspaper helps to form public awareness. Lastly, it is a well-established fact that newspapers are valuable. But we should not believe every word that is printed on them. We should exercise our discrimination while reading the newspapers. Sometimes they publish false or partisan news. Thus they lead people to do wrong things. This trend in the news media is called yellow journalism. If we are not aware and careful about yellow journalism, we may be misled. However, the benefits derived from newspapers are far greater than their demerits. So, we should read the newspaper regularly.
